Books by Warren Hoffman

Warren Hoffman is Chairman of The AWL Group. He has spent more than 30 years dealing with issues, challenges, and problems that cause dysfunction in individuals and organizations. He says: “The answers to ordinary and extraordinary situations are secondary to the questions they invoke. My work is to partner with others to insure that the appropriate and tough questions are addressed before accepting easy answers.”

Warren is known for invoking, evoking, and provoking himself and others in order to discover what is really going on internally and externally. Humor, conversation, and looking at ordinary things from the “dance floor and the balcony” are his ways of engaging individuals or groups to see what hasn’t been seen. He is a “facilitator’s facilitator.”

Learning Disabilities in Organizations

Learning Disabilities in Organizations: How to name, frame, claim and change them discusses 9 Learning Disabilities in Organizations:
  • Fragmentation
  • Polarization
  • Destructive Internal Competition
  • Suspect Relationships with the Public
  • Turnover
  • Technical Arms Race
  • Quick-Fix Mentality
  • Fear
  • Too much management; too little leadership
Some organizations are pathological. Employees and other stakeholders are expected to adhere to the non-verbal and unwritten expectation of serving the organization. The nine learning disabilities described by the author contribute to the pathology. The disabilities described are alive and well in virtually every industry.

The disabilities were uncovered during a three-year research project in over 200 organizations, large and small, throughout the United States.

The Unraveling and Re-Birth of Healthcare

The Unraveling and Re-Birth of Healthcare is based on research with 511 physicians, executives, system administrators, regulators, third party payers, and 117 patients in 213 healthcare systems and 9 medical schools in the United States. Participants suggest that the current disarray, disfunction and diseased state of healthcare systems is the direct result of the confused leading the gullible.

Executive leaders who know how to create financial forms while knowing little about how to read medical charts are leading physicians and the public down the path of fiscal irresponsibility and threatening to disembowel what has been the finest healthcare system in the world. The result:
  • Ten learning disabilities in healthcare systems
  • Seven Physician losses
  • Eleven paradigm shifts impacting healthcare delivery

Grounded in facts, this study is a serious introduction meant for anyone interested in more than a debate or positional dialogue. It's an invitation to a focused conversation which will go beyond fixing broken infrastructures and will heal our divisions and put a new heart within us.
