Biographical Information
Dr. Johnson is the Founder and Principal Consultant with Focal Point Associates consulting to corporate and non profit agencies on leadership and organizational effectiveness. He is Senior Consultant with Action Wheel Leadership, and also a Senior Executive Consultant with RSI Institutional Services Group consulting to regional and national non profit organizations on leadership and financial development. In that role he has assisted non-profits nationwide in building staff and volunteer organizations that have successfully raised excess of 100 million dollars.
Dr. Johnson’s leadership skills were honed in part while serving Presbyterian churches in Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey as Senior Minister / Head of Staff. Prior to his service to churches he was Director of Leadership Training for Christian Laity of Chicago, an ecumenical organization serving the greater Chicago business and professional community.
Dr. Johnson has participated in the initiation and/or incorporation of several entrepreneurial non-profit service agencies. These include: The Fourth Street Bridge (serving the needs of runaway teens – Rockford, IL), Outreach Workshop (serving the needs of disabled adults - San Marino, CA), The Inter Faith Re-Employment Group (a faith based outplacement training corporation – Pittsburgh, PA), Lydia’s Place (serving the post release needs of women offenders – Pittsburgh, PA), Pittsburgh 2000 (neighborhood revitalization program – Pittsburgh, PA), Senior Partners (public/private partnership serving older adults – Pittsburgh, PA), The Hope / World Servants Alliance (a church / para-church partnership in cross cultural training and service - Minneapolis, MN).
Dr. Johnson served as a National Training Associate with Faith at Work Leadership Training Institutes and holds training certification with Inscape Learning Resources. Dr. Johnson has written for several publications including Faith at Work Magazine, Presbyterian Outlook, The Minister’s Manual, and David C. Cook Learning Resources. He writes a monthly column, “Spiritually Speaking”, in the Eden Prairie (Minnesota) News.
Dr. Johnson is married to Patricia and has two grown children, Grant and Emily and four grandchildren, Anthony, Dominic, Nicolas and Stellan. His interests include skiing, sailing, motorcycling, golf, woodworking and photography. Bernie (as he likes to be called) and Pat share a home in Eden Prairie, Minnesota with Mishka, a very spoiled Bichon Frise.
